Washwater Tank Seismic Improvements

washwater tank

joint facilities Project # 1751

The Washwater Tank is a 1 million gallon above ground steel tank located at the R.E. Badger Water Filtration Plant site. The tank has a diameter of 46 feet and is 82.5 feet tall, and was built in 1968 to store water used for backwashing of the filters at the R.E. Badger Filtration Plant. This project includes the design and construction of improvements to enhance the Washwater Tank’s ability to withstand seismic events. In order to improve economy of scale, enhance efficiency, and accommodate the approved Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant funding, the project is being combined with the Clearwell Seismic Improvements Project.

Design was initiated in Fiscal Year 2017 and completed in Fiscal Year 2020. Construction will occur between Fiscal Year 2021 and Fiscal Year 2022.

This project will extend the service life of the Washwater Tank, and bring it into compliance with seismic regulatory requirements.
