Lillian Rice designed this office in 1923 for the newly formed Santa Fe Irrigation District, which was to bring water from Lake Hodges to Rancho Santa Fe, a key selling point for the village. The building is the only remaining example of Rice's treatment of commercial property to reflect and blend with the style of her homes. The building has been designated a California Point of Historic Interest because of its continued relationship to the development of Rancho Santa Fe.

Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society has more information on Lilian Rice.
